IEEE Orlando Section - Chairman's Corner

If you missed the last two meetings you missed some very informative presentations, on March we had a technical presentation by Dr. Issa Batarseh on “Recent Developments in Power Electronics Research in UCF”, it was a very good presentation that generated a lot of questions, on April we met at the Roadhouse Grill Restaurant Banquet Room, this was a joint meeting with the IEEE Communications Society Orlando Chapter, there was a technical presentation on "Fourth Generation Cellular Systems and Smart Antennas" by Dr. Jack H. Winters, Jack Winters Communications, LLC. This was also an excellent presentation. Both meetings were free and had very good attendance.

On Friday April 12 we had the Banquet and Awards Ceremony at the Student Union in UCF, Dr. M. J. Soiliau Vice President of Research and Professor of Optics at UCF was the speaker he spoke about the importance of sponsors in financing research, there was live music playing during dinner by a strings quartet from UCF students. The awards were presented by Dr. Batarseh to the outstanding professionals and students in our section; it was an evening of celebration.

On April 5 we attended the Florida Council and Region 3 Conference in Columbia SC, great ideas and recommendations came out of those meeting a and we have already started implementing some of them and will be activating some additional programs.

If you have been considering becoming active with the IEEE, this is perhaps your best opportunity, we are looking for volunteers, members who want to get involved.

As you already know we have activated the position of Public Relations and Strategic Planning with Christina Caruso and George McClure respectively, they are both going to be playing key roles on the future developments of our section, and they will be looking for volunteers, these are great opportunities to get involved.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday 7th at Rm 288 Eng. Building UCF, this will be a working and planning meeting, next month we will continue with our series of speakers.
Meet the new Chairman
